J. Lew Memorial 5K Run/Walk

Thank you to all who participated in and volunteered with the J. Lew Memorial 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 27th. We finally had a beautiful day for our race (after two years of torrential rain).

This event helped benefit the Athletic Department!
Congratulations to Leni Montesdeoca for being the Fastest Student, Mr. Kevin O’Hagan for being the Fastest Faculty & Staff Member, and to Caitlin Gross, Emma Ruebenacker, and Emilia Ho for finishing top three for high school runners!

 

Badminton  This year, we were happy to reintroduce our Junior Varsity Badminton team to the Athletics Department after a few years hiatus. This season was spent building up their abilities through practices and matches against schools in the Nassau/Suffolk Catholic High School league. Our Varsity Badminton team completed their season in early May. All of their matches were hard fought and were able to pull out some victories against tough opponents.

The Varsity Badminton team received the Sportsmanship Award for the Nassau/Suffolk Catholic High School Athletic Association.

 

Lacrosse   The JV Lacrosse completed their season in the quarterfinals against St. Joseph by the Sea on May 4th. The team worked hard each day and their play showed improvement by season’s end. The Varsity Lacrosse team finished in third place in the Tier 2 North division after a hard fought season. Their season concluded on May 8th in the semifinals against St. Francis Prep.

Softball   Our softball teams have been lucky this season avoiding the raindrops of spring. Both teams have worked hard to finish the season strong. The JV Softball team will be competing in the Tier 3 Championship against Moore Catholic at the American Legion Field in Brooklyn on May 21. The Varsity Softball team completed their season in a very close game against Fontbonne on May 13. The team had much to overcome this season and built on their chemistry and it showed as the season came to a close.

Track  The Track team has been doing well this season with many of our athletes medaling throughout a very busy season. A special congratulations to Emilia Ho for winning the NYS CHSAA Freshwomen Steeplechase race to become the NYS CHSAA freshwomen Steeplechase Champion for this year.

Wednesday, April 10   Varsity Badminton
The Varsity Badminton team was victorious in their doubleheader against St. Mary's High School.
Sara Kurre, Cathleen Balid, Ellice Tsuo, Ambika Ishmael, and Zuzanna Gerlak all won in straight sets.
The team's next game is Monday, April 15 against Our Lady of Mercy Academy.
Congratulations to the Badminton team and their coaches, Ms. Siwicki and Mrs. Postel!
 
 
Thursday, April 11  Varsity Lacrosse
Varsity Lacrosse played against Fontbonne Hall Academy, and with excellent defense led by Edona Xhani, Natalie Moran, and Elizabeth Carty, as well as amazing offensive plays by Gaby Crespo, the girls came out on top, winning the game 7-5.
Captains Gia Campagnolo and Ava Zino scored 2 goals each, along with 2 goals by Sophomore, Francesca Popp, and a goal by Sophomore, Danielle Saborio.
The team’s next game is April 12 against St. Francis Prep at Cunningham Park.

Monday, March 25    Varsity Badminton
The Varsity Badminton team began their season with a victory against Sacred Heart Academy.   Doubles players Cathleen Balid, Ellice Tsuo, Ava Pittari, Claudia Eck, Nithya Nair, Noelle GenilChin, and singles player Shannon Nieto all won in straight sets. The team’s next match is Wednesday, April 10 against St. Mary’s High School.Congratulations to the Varsity Badminton team and their coaches, Ms. Siwicki and Mrs. Postel!

Thursday, March 21   Varsity Lacrosse
On March 21 the Varsity Lacrosse team played St. Vincent Ferrer on Randalls Island. With incredible defense led by Natalie Moran and goalie Hannah LaMalfa, the team won the game 6-1.   Goals were scored by Ava Zino, Frankie Popp, Maeve Carlin, and Gaby Crespo.
On March 25 the Varsity Lacrosse team plays against Cathedral High School.

JV Softball  On March 21 the JV Softball season opener was a hard fought win over Bishop Loughlin.The Hilltoppers offense was led by the hitting of Andrea Petri, Victoria Fernandez, and Alexa Maldonado! The pitching by Gabriella Marsaggi and Jessica Valad secured the victory for Mary Louis!
 On March 26 the JV Softball plays against Moore Catholic High School.

 Monday, March 18  Softball
On March 16, the Varsity Softball team started their season with an 8-5 win over Maria Regina High School.
The Hilltoppers were led by the clutch hitting of Emma Russo and Madison Miller.
The team was solid defensively making every play in the field to back the strong pitching of Abigail Roy and Sydnet Ambrosino.
The team’s next game is March 18 against Xaverian in Brooklyn.

Indoor Track   On March 16-17, the following Indoor Track athletes competed in the Adidas Indoor Track National Championships in Virginia Beach:  Caralinn Becker, Christina Castro, Kameryn Drakes, Caitlin Gross, Sophia McNavich, Aileen Mitarotonda, Natalie Moran, Madeline Seminara and Gabrielle Wilson.
A special congratulations to the Distance Medley Relay team members Aileen Mitarotonda, Madeline Seminara, Caralinn Becker and Sophia McNavich for coming in 4th place in their race earning All American honors and a medal and setting a new school record for the Distance Medley Relay.

Monday, February 26

The Junior Varsity Basketball team concluded their season in the CHSAA quarterfinals last Tuesday, February 20.

 The Varsity Basketball team will be playing in the City Championship quarterfinals tomorrow, February 27.  The team will face  Monsignor Scanlan at 5PM at St. Francis Prep.

 
Tuesday, February 27
Our Varsity Basketball team concluded their season in the City Championships quarterfinals in a hard fought game against Monsignor Scanlan High School.
Great job this season to the team and their coaches, Coach Briana and Coach Tony.
