Visit from TMLA’s Italian Skyping and E-Pal partners
TMLA’s Italian Skyping and E-Pal partners visited our school Thursday, March 8. This year’s visitors included students from two Sicilian high schools who attended classes and had lunch with their TMLA Senior and Freshwomen partners. TMLA hosted 24 students (23 young ladies and 1 gentleman) and 5 administrators from two high schools in Sicily. Twelve students were from the Istituto Gaetano Curcio in Ispica, Sicily and 12 were from Istituto Giovanni Verga in Modica, Sicily. Chaperone and Exchange Program Coordinator Mary Puccia joined chaperones from Istituto G. Curico, Ispica and Istituto G. Verga, Modica.
Mr. Maurantonio’s TMLA Italian classes have been videoconferencing with the school in Ispica for the last 8 years. The Modica High school was added this year as we at TMLA increase our international relationships. Besides classroom videoconferencing sessions, TMLA and the Italian students were matched as E-PALs. Students have developed bonds over the Internet and thanks to the visit were able to finally meet in person. All agreed it was an amazing and emotional day.
The group pictured in the left column of this story are from Instituto Giovanni Verga in Modica, Sicily. Our videoconferencing friends of the past 8 years are pictured below.
