TMLA Speech and Debate Winners
Congratulations to TMLA Speech and Debate Team!
At a tournament held at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia , several Mary Louis speakers won awards: SR Koreena Deen placed 8th and SM Kaitlyn Chesleigh advanced to the quarter-finals in Oral Interpretation of Literature; JR Cassidy Barry advanced to the final round in Student Congress, placing 14th. The UPenn Tournament was attended by high schools from across the United States.
At St. Francis Prep tournament on Feb. 1, SR Koreena Deen placed 1st in Oral Interpretation of Literature; SM Sydney Hanson placed 1st in Student Congress; JR Caitlin Murphy placed 2nd in Extemporaneous Speaking. Sydney and Caitlin join Koreena in qualifying to compete at the New York State Championships in April. Overall the team placed 3rd in Speech, 2nd in Congress and 2nd overall in this competition.
At a tournament held at Ridge HS in New Jersey on Jan. 26, JR Cassidy Barry was named as a finalist in Student Congress.
One week earlier at St. Joseph HS in Brooklyn, SM Carla Delgado placed 2nd in Declamation, SM Bridget Farrell placed 1st in Original Oratory, JR Caitlin Murphy placed 1st in Extemporaneous Speaking and JRs Savannah Wilson and Elizabeth Gargano placed 1st and 6th respectively in Oral Interpretation. Carla and Bridget both qualified to compete at the New York State Speech Championships at Hofstra University in April.
