TMLA Speech and Debate Honors
TMLA’s Speech and Debate Team closes the 2018-2019 year with over 70 individual awards and 25 team sweepstakes awards.
During the year, 15 members of TMLA’s Team individually qualified to compete in the New York State Speech and Debate Championships where 2 received awards: Junior Cassidy Barry advanced to the semi-finals in Student Congress and Sophomore Kaitlyn Chesleigh advanced to quarter-finals in Oral Interpretation of Literature. Both of these students have also qualified to compete at the National Catholic Speech and Debate Championships in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, during Memorial Day weekend.
TMLA Team competed in 13 tournaments in the greater metropolitan area. President Senior Koreena Deen led the team in overall awards, winning awards in 7 of 9 local tournaments. Freshwoman Olivia Taverni competed in 14 tournaments – more than anyone else on the team.
TMLA Team is a member of Brooklyn-Queens Catholic Forensic League – a local chapter of National Catholic Forensic League, as well as the National Speech and Debate Association, and the New York State Forensic League. Moderator Kieran Larkin is assisted by Debate Coach Jessica Mohabir ’16, Congress Coach Erin Mahr ’18, and Speech Coach JK Larkin.[Go Back]
