TMLA Selected for Amazon Future Engineer Program

Amazon Future Engineer Program-Project STEM has selected TMLA again this year to participate in its program for 2022-2023.  Both AFE and TMLA are dedicated to creating a curriculum that will encourage young women to pursue a professional career in the fast-growing field of technology.

Amazon’s $50M commitment to Computer Science (CS) Education enables students to have access to several  computer science courses and online support. Students can also apply for a scholarship award of $10,000 for college tuition, as well as internships to gain work experience.  In addition students participating in AFE also receive a free membership to AWS Educate which provides them with free access to computing power in the AWS Cloud for their coding projects and content as they learn about cloud computing.

Mary Louis encourages student interest in technology by giving an iPad to each 9th year student, as well as in its Introduction to Technology course.  TMLA Computer Science courses and the Art department`s Graphic Design program extend student tech expertise.  TMLA`s award winning Robotics team is acknowledged as the first all-girl school team in the State of New York.  With our Robotics team, TMLA has an established history as the springboard for young women aspiring to careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.

TMLA’s Women in Engineering Week offers students a 5 day intensive experience in engineering during the summer.  The goal of this program is to aid young women in exploring Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, Chemical, Computer, Software, and Environmental Engineering. This year’s program will take place August 8 – 12. Each day includes hands-on team based fun projects that encourage students to apply creativity to solve real-life engineering challenges.
