TMLA Easter in Italy

40 Mary Louis students and six teachers traveled to Southern Italy and Rome for Easter vacation.

They traveled to the heel of the boot in Italy, to a region called Puglia, and visited the Baroque city of Lecce and Ottranto. On Easter Sunday they attended Mass in a city called Alberobello with the locals. They then headed to Sorrento where they met a famous designer who took them to her shop where they purchased leather pocketbooks and accessories. This designer also distributes her merchandise to Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue in the US.

While they were in the region of Campania, they traveled to the island of Capri and had their own private boat tour of the island. They also visited the ancient city of Pompeii which was destroyed in 79AD by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. At a mozzarella farm they were given a lesson on how mozzarella cheese is made. They also had the opportunity to try and purchase some of the local foods. Later they traveled to a resort which is famous for making Cameos and jewelry from turquoise and corals.

The final destination for the travelers was Rome, the capital city of Italy. There they had an amazing visit to the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel. Then they spent time going around St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest Roman Catholic Church in the world. After dinner they took a walk around the city to view the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. Everyone on the trip had a great time and a wonderful experience tasting the local foods and desserts.

All in the group are looking forward to planned trips in 2023 to Italy in February and to France in April.
