Updates for TMLA Athletics Teams

BADMINTON – The Varsity Badminton Team completed their season with a record high 11 wins, 3 losses.  The team advanced to the Championship game against St. John the Baptist and finished in 2nd place. This is the best record the team has ever earned in the history of TMLA Badminton.  In addition to a successful season, individual awards were given to multiple players.  The following students had the best overall record in the league in their respective positions:  Second doubles:  Rena Cheng and Maharani Anigacz;  Third doubles:  Kayla Caputo and Chloe Heinz;  Fourth doubles:  Claire Casey and Chloe Riche.

SOFTBALL – Both JV and Varsity Softball Teams advanced to the playoffs.   

BASKETBALL The Varsity Basketball Team competed at the CHSAA Basketball Tournament held at Island Garden.  The regular season games were restricted by NYC Department of Health guidelines.

VOLLEYBALL – Due to restrictions from the NYC Department of Health, we were unable to hold a traditional volleyball season.  Instead the team played in various tournaments that included the CHSAA Senior Classic, where each senior was recognized for her dedication to the sport, as well as a Round Robin tournament for the Varsity team.

JV LACROSSE – This is the inaugural season for JV Lacrosse here at TMLA.  This year, the team played against highly competitive programs at St. Joseph by the Sea (Staten  Island), Kennedy Catholic (Somers) and Xaverian (Brooklyn).

ATHLETIC AWARDS This year Athletic Awards Night will be a little different.  This year we celebrate academic achievements of all our Student- Athletes, the 4 year careers of our seniors, and the first graduating class from our Sports Medicine Department, one of the significant Diploma Designation programs

OUTDOOR TRACK—The Track and Field Team competed in their second Outdoor Meet on Saturday, April 10 at Icahn Stadium. SR Fiona Maloney placed first in the high jump with a height of 4 ft. 10 inches. She also competed in the 200-meter dash placing 12 th out of 50 runners with a time of 29.58. JR Jennifer Ginnane placed 14 th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.07, followed by SR Christine Maguad who ran 31.58 placing 18 th .   The 4×400 meter relay team of SR Nicole Contreras, SMs Caroline Schmitisch and Claudia Huber, and FW Shannon Nieto placed 6 th with a time of 5:09. 

WINTER TRACK—With an unprecedented 2 meet season, the Track Team performed well. During the regular season, the team braved the cold, winter air and came up with some personal bests. At the only outdoor meet of the season, Erin Doyle placed 2 nd in the Shot-Put throwing 21 feet!

CHSAA CITY INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP—SR Fiona Maloney led the way in the 300-meter dash, placing 7 th in the league. The team had some personal best times during the championship meet. JR Samarah Bermudez placed 5 th overall in the 600-meter race, while JR Gabriela Maldonado and SR Sariah Grant, also in the 600-meter race, rounded out the top10 of the league. JR Anya Ferguson and SR Christine Maguad ran season best times in the 300-meter race, too!

Congratulations to the entire Track and Field team and their coaches Ms. Mary Gallagher and Ms. Eboni Birch. This season was not easy, but the team showed that the Hilltoppers are resilient.
