Jenn and Pat Quinn

TMLA alumna, Jenn Flynn Quinn ’03 and her husband Pat Quinn, are two of the creators of ALS Ice Bucket Challenge sweeping social media outlets across the globe. (…)This has  been a tremendously successful campaign raising funds and awareness for ALS, a devastating illness that affects as many as 30,000 people, in the U.S. alone .

Pat was diagnosed with ALS in March of 2013 and quickly made it his mission to spread awareness about this rare and debilitating disease. Pat and Jenn established Quinn for the Win, a non-profit foundation which spreads awareness about ALS and helps to raise funds for research towards treatment and a future cure. In 2014 Pat and Jenn witnessed people in Pelham, New York participating in an Ice Bucket Challenge on an individual basis, to raise awareness for a variety of charitable causes. They realized this would be a catchy and fun way to raise awareness for ALS.

Jenn and Pat reached out to Pete Frates, their friend in Boston who also has ALS, and together they came up with the idea of bringing the challenge to social media and each nominating 50 of their friends to participate.  In the summer of 2014, Jenn, Pat and Pete launched the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The campaign quickly went viral and has become an internet phenomenon. Millions of people across the world have participated in the challenge, including movie stars, professional athletes and even former U.S. Presidents!  As of today the challenge has raised over $100 million for ALS research and awareness!!

Jenn and Pat have been recognized and featured in USA Today, Good Morning America, NBC News, CBS News and were named “Queens Persons of the Week” by NY1 News. In addition Jenn and Pat have generously agreed to come to TMLA and speak to our students about ALS and help to put a face on the true meaning of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
