Women Prophets of the Old Testament

Women Prophets of the Old Testament just published by Kieran Larkin, of TMLA Religious Studies Department,  is the companion of Mr. Larkin’s  award winning Messengers of God: A Survey of Old Testament Prophets published last year.

Both books are being used as texts for Mr. Larkin’s second semester senior elective course on “Old Testament Prophets.”

A source of spiritual inspiration for believers throughout the ages, the Old Testament, or Hebrew Scriptures, contains a body of literature by and about the prophets.  For too long, names of women prophets like Deborah, Huldah, Miriam and Noadiah have never been accorded the respect and attention they deserve. They delivered God’s messages with the same passion, commitment and urgency of prophets like Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel. Both groups were messengers of God who tried to keep God’s people on the right path.

Women Prophets of the Old Testament is written to acknowledge and celebrate the prophetesses—and give them the honor they deserve.
