Fiona Wins Diocesan Sportsmanship Award

The Mary Louis Academy is proud to announce that Fiona Mullen has been selected as this year’s recipient of the John Moran Sportsmanship Award for the Brooklyn /Queens Girls Catholic High School Association.  Fiona was selected by the coaches of all the member schools for her exceptional ability and demeanor on the basketball court. Fiona, a member of the TMLA Freshman class, plays on the Junior Varsity Basketball team.

Fiona is the fourth Hilltopper in three years to be awarded this Diocesan Sportsmanship Award.  Grace Collins, a Senior at TMLA, earned this award when she was a Sophomore in 2017.

Mary Louis alumnae Danielle Patterson (2017) and Jordan Nixon (2018) are the other TMLA recipients of this award. Both Danielle and Jordan went on to be named McDonald’s All-Americans and currently play for the nationally-ranked University of Notre Dame Women’s Basketball team.

TMLA’s Principal, Mrs. Ann O’Hagan-Cordes ‘84, congratulated Fiona and her teammates for being “women of dignity and excellence in representing Mary Louis.”   Mrs. O’Hagan-Cordes added, “Fiona’s talent and the way she has pursued her passion have been characteristic of our basketball program.”

TMLA Basketball program is led by Varsity Basketball Coach, Mrs. JoAnn Pinnock ’89.  Coach Pinnock praised Fiona, claiming “Fiona is a fundamentally talented young lady whose work ethic inspires her team as well as our program. She has shown the future to be bright for the Hilltoppers.”
