Sports Medicine Program

The Mary Louis Academy is proud to provide our Student-Athletes with a full-time Sports Medicine Staff, the only one of its kind for female athletes.

Having a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) on staff is vital in keeping our Student-Athletes healthy, safe, and active in their sports. Our staff works closely with the School Nurse to provide consistency in the care of our Student-Athletes. Professional Athletic Training Services that are provided on campus include:

  • Injury Evaluation and Reassessment
  • Hot and Cold Modalities
  • Electric Muscle Stimulation
  • Therapeutic Ultrasound
  • Manual Therapy / Myofascial Release
  • Stretching
  • Chiropractic Adjustment
  • Athletic taping for support for injured joints
  • Kiniseo taping for support
  • Therapeutic Exercises

At the beginning of every season, our Student-Athletes receive concussion baseline testing, a preventive measure that assesses a Student-Athlete’s balance and brain function. This includes learning and memory skills, the ability to pay attention or concentrate, how quickly she may think and solve problems, as well as the presence of any concussion symptoms.  Should a Student-Athlete suffer from a concussion, the baseline would help our Sports Medicine Staff make comparisons through post-injury testing and would then aid them in determining when the Student-Athlete could safely return to play.

CPR/First Aid/AED Certification Program

At The Mary Louis Academy, we are committed to maintaining a safe, prepared, and responsive athletics environment. As part of this mission, we proudly offer a First Aid/CPR/AED Certification Course through the American Red Cross, taught by our own Dean and Varsity Volleyball Coach, Mrs. Sylwia Schober.

Who Can Enroll

  • The course is open exclusively to Juniors and Seniors.

  • Juniors enrolled in the Sports Medicine Program are eligible to take the course.

  • Students apply for enrollment as they would for any academic elective at TMLA.

About the Course

This course provides students with essential lifesaving skills, including first aid response, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Instruction is embedded into the school day and typically spans one trimester, though the exact duration may vary depending on the year’s schedule.

Certification Details

  • The course is taught by Mrs. Sylwia Schober, who has served as an American Red Cross Instructor for more than 23 years, training both students and TMLA coaching staff.

  • Students complete the official Red Cross certification process, which is valid for two years.

  • A $40 certification fee is required at the time of enrollment.

Our Commitment to Safety

This program empowers students with critical emergency response skills and strengthens the overall safety culture within our athletic programs. Many members of our coaching staff are also certified through this course each year, ensuring that TMLA athletes train and compete in a well-prepared environment.
