Athletics Overview

Welcome to #HilltopperNation

A Letter from the Director of Athletics

Dear Prospective Students and Families,

Welcome to The Mary Louis Academy Athletics!

As your Athletic Director, I am thrilled to lead the largest female athletics department in New York City. Athletics mirrors life—it’s not just about trophies or medals, but about recognizing the journey, the sacrifices, and the perseverance each one of our athletes demonstrates both on and off the field. It’s about self-discovery, lessons learned, and friendships made.

Our coaches play a pivotal role in fostering team culture, which is essential for overall success and unity. They are intentional about their actions and uphold values that shape the team culture through leadership, communication, and by setting an example. Great coaching leads to high morale, better performance, and self-discipline.

Warmly,

Mrs. Christina Falsone
Director of Athletics
The Mary Louis Academy

Overview

The Mary Louis Academy proudly supports one of New York City’s most extensive all-girls athletic programs—featuring 29 teams that make up the largest female athletics program of its kind.

Athletics are central to student life at TMLA. Nearly half of our students participate in competitive sports, gaining confidence, discipline, and lifelong friendships. Guided by a dedicated coaching staff, our athletes strive for excellence both on and off the field.

TMLA is home to numerous individual and team champions at the conference, city, and state levels, demonstrating the talent and determination that define our community.

Sports Medicine and Student Wellness

TMLA is the only high school in the region with a full-time Sports Medicine team exclusively serving female athletes.

Our Certified Athletic Trainer provides comprehensive care including:

  • Concussion baseline testing

  • Injury evaluation and management

  • Advanced rehabilitation and recovery support

This team works closely with the School Nurse to ensure consistent, high-quality care tailored to the unique needs of female athletes. Our commitment to wellness ensures every student-athlete can compete safely and confidently.

Sports Medicine Diploma Designation

For students passionate about health, fitness, and science, TMLA offers a multi-year Sports Medicine Diploma Designation—a unique opportunity to explore careers in sports and medicine.

Through hands-on experience assisting our Sports Medicine staff after school and at athletic events, students gain real-world insight into fields such as:

  • Athletic Training

  • Physical Therapy

  • Occupational Therapy

  • Strength & Conditioning

  • Orthopedics

This immersive program helps students build professional skills and discover their potential in healthcare and sports-related fields.

Community and Competition

Athletics at TMLA unite our students, faculty, staff, and alumnae in shared pride and spirit.

Our teams compete in the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA), representing both the Brooklyn/Queens and Nassau/Suffolk dioceses. Whether on the field, court, or track, TMLA athletes embody the values of teamwork, resilience, and sisterhood that define our school community.

From the first practice to championship play, TMLA Athletics celebrates the strength, leadership, and unity of young women in sport.
