Sports Medicine Program
The Mary Louis Academy is proud to provide our Student-Athletes with a full-time Sports Medicine Staff, the only one of its kind for female athletes.
Having a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) on staff is vital in keeping our Student-Athletes healthy, safe, and active in their sports. Our staff works closely with the School Nurse to provide consistency in the care of our Student-Athletes. Professional Athletic Training Services that are provided on campus include:
- Injury Evaluation and Reassessment
- Hot and Cold Modalities
- Electric Muscle Stimulation
- Therapeutic Ultrasound
- Manual Therapy / Myofascial Release
- Chiropractic Adjustment
- Athletic taping for support for injured joints
- Kiniseo taping for support
- Therapeutic Exercises
At the beginning of every season, our Student-Athletes receive concussion baseline testing, a preventive measure that assesses a Student-Athlete’s balance and brain function. This includes learning and memory skills, the ability to pay attention or concentrate, how quickly she may think and solve problems, as well as the presence of any concussion symptoms. Should a Student-Athlete suffer from a concussion, the baseline would help our Sports Medicine Staff make comparisons through post-injury testing and would then aid them in determining when the Student-Athlete could safely return to play.
