For Rising 9th Grade Students | 2025-2026 School Year
Welcome to The Mary Louis Academy! As an incoming Grade 9 Freshwoman, you are beginning an exciting academic journey. Please review the following information carefully before submitting your elective course selections for the 2025-2026 school year.
Course Registration Period
📅 Opens: April 1, 2025
📅 Preliminary Deadline: April 15, 2025
Submitting your selections by April 15 helps us create well-balanced class schedules while ensuring that student preferences and needs are considered. Students who submit their form after the deadline or enroll after April 15 may not receive their preferred course choices.
Core Course Placement
Students will be placed in their core courses for English, Math, Science, and Social Studies based on:
✅ Previously completed coursework
✅ Regents exam scores (if applicable)
✅ Aptitude demonstrated through standardized test scores
📌 Regents Exam Scores Submission:
If you are taking a Regents exam in June, you must submit your scores to admissions@tmla.org upon receipt. These scores will determine your course placement, honors-level designation, or promotion to the next level course.
Scheduling & Appeals
- While we do our best to accommodate preferred course selections, final placement depends on factors such as course demand, eligibility, staffing availability, and scheduling logistics.
- Finalized schedules will be available during student orientation in September.
- If you wish to appeal your preliminary schedule, you must email Principal Murphy at lmurphy@tmla.org. Some appeals may require a placement exam in late summer.

Core Courses for Grade 9 Freshwomen
Your core courses will be assigned based on academic placement and include:
📖 English: English 9 or English 9 Honors
➗ Mathematics: Algebra I or Algebra I Honors; OR Geometry or Geometry Honors
🧬 Science: Biology or Biology Honors; OR Chemistry or Chemistry Honors
🌍 Social Studies: Global History 9 or AP World History 9
🧎 Religion: Religion 9
🏃 Physical Education: Physical Education I or Dance
📚 Student Services: Skills 9
Elective Course Selection
As part of your academic schedule, you will select three electives from the categories below:
1. Fine Arts Electives 🎭🎶🎨
2. World Languages Electives 🌍🗣️
📌 Placement Exam for Advanced World Language Students:
If you have already completed every level of a world language before entering Grade 9, you will be required to take a placement exam in June to determine the appropriate course level. You will receive a follow-up email after the course selection deadline to schedule this exam.
