Scholarships & Financial Aid

While award combinations vary, total TMLA scholarships and financial aid will not exceed 80% of tuition ($12,000) unless a student qualifies for:

• A full (100%) merit scholarship

• A 93% scholarship through Student Sponsor Partners (SSP)

If a Grade 9 student qualifies for multiple merit-based scholarships, including SSP, the award of highest value will be granted.

This structure allows TMLA to extend support to as many families as possible each year while sustaining the strength of our academic program.

TACHS & Merit Scholarship Policy

TMLA accepts the TACHS exam and considers whether an applicant has selected TMLA as a top-three choice. However, students are not required to list TMLA as a top-three school in order to qualify for a merit scholarship.

We believe students should be recognized for their academic achievement and hard work, regardless of school ranking preference.

For families applying from Catholic elementary schools, selecting TMLA as a top-three choice may offer a logistical benefit. When listed as a top-three school, the elementary school will automatically submit the TACHS Applicant Record directly to TMLA, eliminating the need for families to coordinate record submission independently.

Merit Scholarships (Grade 9)

All Grade 9 applicants are automatically considered for merit scholarships. No additional application is required.

Awards are based on:

• 7th and 8th grade academic performance

• TACHS exam scores or

• NYS Grade 7 ELA & Math exam scores

Applications must be submitted by the annual December deadline to be eligible.

Merit scholarships remain in effect for all four years of high school, provided students remain on track for graduation and in good disciplinary standing.

CSJ Service Incentive Scholarship (Grade 9)

TMLA offers one non-academic scholarship valued at 20% of tuition.

To apply, students must:

• Submit an essay describing their service experience

• Provide documentation of community service hours

Applications must be received by the December deadline.

Named Scholarships (Grades 9–12)

Through the generosity of donors, TMLA may award additional scholarships in select years. These awards reflect donor-designated criteria.

Students do not apply directly. Recipients are selected based on established qualifications.

The SSP award is one of the highest-value opportunities available at TMLA, covering approximately 93% of tuition through a combination of merit and need-based support. This is both a merit- and need-based award designed for families meeting specific income thresholds, and requires student participation in a SSP mentorship program throughout high school.

To qualify:

1. Apply to TMLA

2. Apply separately to SSP

3. Be accepted by both institutions

Applications must be received by the December deadline. 

SSP scholarships are good for tuition charges only; families are still responsible for all TMLA fees.

Students are welcome to apply external scholarships toward their tuition balance, even if they have been awarded an internal TMLA scholarship.

The only exception is the Student Sponsor Partners (SSP) Scholarship, which may not be combined with additional scholarships in accordance with SSP program guidelines.

While TMLA does not maintain formal partnerships with organizations beyond SSP, our students have successfully earned outside scholarships in the past, including:

• Columbus Citizens Foundation Scholarship

• Parish-based scholarships

• Other community-sponsored awards

We encourage families to explore scholarship opportunities within their local parish and community.

Applicants in all grades are invited to apply for need-based financial aid through FAIR (www.fairapp.com).

To receive an aid decision along with the admissions decision, families should complete the FAIR application as soon as possible.

• Priority deadline for Grade 9: 12/31
• Rolling consideration through 4/15
• Applicants after 4/15 or mid-year transfers will be considered as funds remain available

Awards are determined based on:

• Financial documentation submitted to FAIR

• FAIR’s recommendation to TMLA

Financial aid may be combined with a TMLA scholarship and/or tuition discounts, up to the 80% cap.

Combined TMLA awards (scholarship + financial aid + tuition discounts) will not exceed $12,000 (80% of tuition), with the exception of few 100% merit scholarships or the SSP need- and merit-based scholarship (93%).

• Legacy Discount ($500) – Daughter, granddaughter, or sibling of an alumna

• First Responder / Military Discount ($500)

• Sibling Discount ($500, applied to the eldest sibling’s account)

• TMLA Middle Graduate Discount ($1,000)
