TMLA alumna Mary Balid was featured by The Tablet for a journey in global health that began during her time at The Mary Louis Academy. As a member of TMLA’s Medical Unlimited club, Mary discovered an interest in global health that would ultimately shape her academic and professional goals.

Now studying politics and global health at Princeton University, Mary spent the summer in Manila, Philippines, interning with a health policy think tank and researching public health issues. She credits her Catholic education and the opportunities she found at TMLA with helping transform an early interest in medicine into a broader calling to serve communities and shape health policy on a global scale.

TMLA student Julia McCarthy was featured in QNS as one of several Queens teens helping bring the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to the local community through a global youth festival.

The initiative brought young people together around one of the world’s largest sporting events, celebrating the international cultures and communities represented throughout Queens. Julia’s involvement reflects the leadership, enthusiasm, and community spirit TMLA is proud to see its students demonstrate both on and beyond the Hilltop.

TMLA’s badminton program was featured in The Tablet, highlighting the dedication, teamwork, and competitive spirit behind one of the Academy’s most distinctive athletic offerings. TMLA is the only Catholic high school in New York City to field both varsity and junior varsity badminton teams, competing in the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA league.

The feature explores how student-athletes develop their skills, build camaraderie, and learn the communication and teamwork necessary to compete in a fast-paced sport. It also highlights Head Coach Ruthcelis Morales-Flores and Assistant Coach and TMLA alumna Ambika Ishmael, who help students grow from newcomers to competitive players.

TMLA alumna Juliana Morsello was featured by Adelphi University for her emerging work in cognitive neuroscience and her ambition to become a “civic neuroscientist”—a scientist who helps bridge the gap between complex research and public understanding.

As a 2025 National Science Foundation-funded scholar at UC Irvine’s Summer Institute in Neuroscience, Juliana was one of just 20 students selected from 788 applicants. There, she conducted research exploring brain imaging and potential biomarkers associated with Alzheimer’s disease. At Adelphi, she has continued to distinguish herself through undergraduate research, presentations, and work supporting neurodiverse students.

Her accomplishments reflect the curiosity, leadership, and commitment to meaningful work that TMLA is proud to see its alumnae carry into college and beyond.

TMLA senior and Student Sponsor Partners scholar Kiara Torres ’26 was featured on Currents News, sharing the educational journey that brought her to The Mary Louis Academy and the opportunities that have prepared her for her next chapter.

After beginning her Catholic school education in fifth grade, Kiara found her way to TMLA with the support of Student Sponsor Partners. At TMLA, she has grown academically and personally while pursuing her interest in science. This fall, she will attend Binghamton University to study Biology.

Kiara’s story also highlights the importance of partnerships that expand access to Catholic education. TMLA is proud to work with Student Sponsor Partners and Futures in Education to help make a transformative education accessible to students and families across New York City.

TMLA senior Jaylin Reyes ’26 and President Livia Angiolillo joined host Joe Torres on ABC7’s Tiempo for a conversation about The Mary Louis Academy and the opportunities an all-girls education provides to young women in New York City.

Jaylin shared how her TMLA education has prepared her to pursue a future in STEM, reflecting on the strong academic foundation, encouragement, and opportunities she has received throughout her high school experience. As a Latina student leader, Jaylin also offered a firsthand perspective on TMLA’s diverse community and its commitment to empowering young women to pursue ambitious futures.

President Angiolillo discussed TMLA’s mission, continued growth, and commitment to ensuring that an excellent all-girls Catholic education remains accessible to families across New York City.
