Service

We believe that we create an atmosphere of Christian ideals and values that will enrich the lives of our students so that they may make positive contributions to the society in which they live.

TMLA students honor the Catholic tradition of community service. To this end, all students are encouraged to be of service throughout their high school years and beyond. Juniors are required to contribute a minimum of 50 hours of non-salaried minimum of 50 hours of non-salaried volunteer service to a parish or institutional program designed to offer assistance to designated needy individuals.

Students sign a contract for this Christian Service Project, which is an integral part of their Religious Studies curriculum and of the mission statement of The Mary Louis Academy which challenges them to “bring about the reign of God...through inclusive love.”

Service Homerooms

TMLA has nine dedicated service homerooms, three for sophomore year, three for junior year and three for senior year. Each of these homerooms is dedicated to a Social Justice theme. The Servoice Homeroom themes are: Women, Health, Environment, Poverty, and Peace. Students volunteer to be a part of one of these service homerooms. Education, advocacy, prayer and service are the central themes of all three homerooms. While they share similar mandates, each has its own structures and strategies. Under the direction of the homeroom moderators, the students plan and carry out varied types of events and service projects designed to increase the school community’s knowledge of these issues and bring about positive change.
