Assignment for A. P. World History

Summer 2008

My Dear New Whappers,

Congratulations on successfully completing your first year in World History AP and now welcome to WHAPLAND II!   I am so excited that you will be in my class next September and I can not wait to start discussing the historical events and beliefs of the times after the Renaissance.  You will be embarking on a great new venture as we pick up your journey of the past and take it all the way to the present.  We will start with the beginning of modern history with the coming of the Scientific Revolution and we will look at the people, the events and the challenges through the Twentieth Century. (I hear you are great thinkers! I am looking forward to hearing your views about men such as Marx, Hitler and Gandhi to name just a few. )

In order that we get off to a good start I have set up a guided reading for you to complete over the summer.  As you read the chapters, always remember to be active readers.  This means you will need to take notes, and think through the material as you go.  This will be of paramount importance throughout your study of World History.

I know you have had a wonderful start this freshmen year and Ms. Fusco speaks so highly of you.  I ask that you continue to be open to learning new and wonderful things, and as the song says: “It’s a whole new world…”  Let us encounter it together.

I will see you in September. Have a great summer.

Ms. Bruen

P.S.  If you have any questions regarding the assignment you can email me at kbbruen@tmla.org
