Technology

Technology is an integral part of the education process and is used throughout the school in support of other disciplines. The courses offered by the department give students an experience of what can be done with a deeper knowledge of computer software.

Introduction to Programming in Visual Basic 6.0

Students will design, code, test and debug their own programs using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 on Microsoft Visual Studio; generate web pages using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Stylesheets (CSS); create animations and menus using Macromedia Flash Professional 8.0; write a resume and cover letter using Microsoft Word; generate mail merges using Microsoft Word and Excel; use formatting and formulas in spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel; create databases using Microsoft Access; make presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint; and discuss current events in technology, such as the impact of corporations and new devices. Students are assessed on class work, reports and written exams.


Introduction to Desktop Publishing

Students will be introduced to the use of Adobe PageMaker 7.0, the desktop publishing program. They will master the basic skills that can be used in both yearbook and newspaper design. In addition, students will be shown the proper use of clip art, spot color, decorative fonts and photo placement. Students interested in this course must be aware that additional computer lab time will be required beyond the scheduled class meetings.

This semester course is given to all incoming freshmen. The course is designed to expand upon junior high school computer skills. It includes using Microsoft Word and Power Point, Internet browsing and the physical components of the computer. Students will look at computer code to give them a better understanding of what a computer can do and how it does it.
